Frontline Families

In 2010, Families United launched into the communities of Blue Star families through Frontline Families. In addition to assisting military family members in obtaining and navigating critical services and benefits, the program will work to bridge the gap between military communities, veterans, and civilians around the country. Our events and resources provide military families the support they need while raising awareness of family needs and challenges beyond the installation gates. Community partners, spouse groups, and other organizations all play a part in the expanding network of support for our families. Our field team members will live and work in the military communities which they serve, most as military family members themselves.

Camp Desert Kids

The Camp Desert Kids program works to help military children better understand the deployments that shape their lives through a fun and educational event. In addition to allowing children to share similar experiences as their deployed parent, it serves to help American children learn that Iraqi and Afghani children do the same things they do – just differently, and works to cultivate an appreciation of Middle Eastern heritage. Families United and our Kids Outreach Program serve as a resource for military parents and their children.

Gold Star Family Luncheons

When we ask Gold Star Families what we can do to help, they all say the same thing – provide an opportunity to meet other Gold Star families and share their stories. In response to this growing need in the military family community, Families United hosted it's first Gold Star family luncheon in 2008. In 2010, we will host 10 luncheons and dinners in cities around the country. Bringing families together to celebrate the lives of their Heroes and gain a comfort only offered by those who have known similar loss is one of the most important services we provide.

Weekend of Remembrance

Every year, Families United brings together thousands of the mothers and fathers, spouses, sons and daughters of our nation’s fallen Heroes for a Weekend of Remembrance. The multiple events pay tribute to America’s fallen Heroes, while providing an opportunity for these Gold Star families to support each other, share their stories, and celebrate their loved ones. The 2009 event was the largest-ever gathering of Gold Star family members. For more information, visit www.WeekendOfRemembrance.com.

Gold Star Family Assistance

The Gold Star Family Assistance program was developed out of the tremendous number of requests we received from Gold Star families who wanted to attend their loved one’s funerals at Arlington National Cemetery. It quickly became obvious that assistance provided by the Defense Department did not always meet the needs of blended or non-traditional families, and there was need for outside aid. Families United now offers financial support to our fallen Heroes’ families through a generously funded assistance program.

National Gold Star Family Registry

Families United is excited to be launching the first National Gold Star Family Registry. This public, online platform will be the first comprehensive database of fallen Heroes and their families ever developed. Whether they gave their life in Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Korea, WWII, or another conflict, the Registry will be a place to ensure their memory will live on. The National Gold Star Family Registry will afford family members the opportunity to upload photos and other information as part of a tribute page for their hero, giving future generations a sense of who these brave Americans were, how they lived, and the cause for which they died. As the Registry grows, we will add new functionality that will develop the largest online community of Gold Star family members ever created, helping families across the generations and across the miles support each other in honoring their Heroes. For more information, visit www.GoldStarFamilyRegistry.com.
