Amy and Sarah Henderson
Columbus, Georgia

Amy and Sarah lost their brother, Army Ranger Private John M. Henderson, Jr., on August 4, 2005 in Afghanistan. Amy Henderson has said that her brother sat her down before he left and said, “My job is very dangerous. I may die. I’m willing to sacrifice my life for my family. I’m okay with that. You should be okay with that”. She thoroughly understands and appreciates the extraordinary sacrifices all our brave fighting men and women are making.

Amy Henderson, one of his two older sisters, said she talked with him July 30. "He always wanted to know what was going on here," she said.

"He was there for a reason. He believed in being over there, and knew why he was there and what he needed to do."

His father said he was very proud of his son becoming a Ranger, an elite special forces unit of the Army.

"The Army is full of young people that want to make a difference," he said. "He was representative of that - he wanted to give something to his country. They give part of their life. He gave all of his life." Columbia (Ga.) Ledger-Enquirer, 8/7/05
